DJ David Coquelin (PRR! PRR!) is prolific. I first heard 100% PRROMO! at my old job and was super turned off. Then JE M’EN TAPE came in the mail, so I back-to-backed the two releases and entered into another dimension. I was transported in a realm of pure control that was almost portrayed as completely nonchalant chaos. So, I reached out to PRR! PRR!, even before covering or letting (the) David(s) know I had anything to do with music coverage/reviewing. Maybe I was the only one to reach out. But it was an honor when they replied to me with their all their creative-sound thoughts. Which, to sum up what they said, simply: “We have fun, yes?”
Look, not even six minutes into FRR! FRR! Vol. 2 (follow up to FRR! FRR! Vol. 1, listeners can hear a dog barking. A DOG BARKING!!! At first, I was certain DJ David Coquelin did this as a measurable joke because (1) he probably wasn’t happy with our coverage of the release so far, and (b) he doesn’t like the idea of “guest mixes.” Well, Monet Maker predicted this to the T: there are bagpipe techno beats in FRR! FRR! Vol. 2. Or generally how Coquelin is completely drawing on hard psychedelic tropes, blatantly throwing off listeners into a mental treasure-hunt of sounds, and being so nonchalant about it all is complete, to me. Words (minced, of course)….
Here is the FRR! FRR! Vol. 2 mixtape made especially for TMT. It follows the FRR! FRR! PS : the guy on the cover says: We are “high” my friend “CHÉPÈRE” is the reverse word of PERCHER which means above/stoned. it is also the mountain-guy that the journalist talks about at the end of the mix.
