Tabs Out is an all-cassette podcast that’s been documenting the prolific tape underground with joyful obsession and humorous expertise since 2012. Tiny Mix Tapes has teamed with Tabs Out for a show called Laser Focus, in which tape aficionados/fetishists Mike Haley, Dave Doyen, and Joe B hone in on a specific label or artist. Check out the archive here.
Operating out of Chicago, via Colorado, Patient Sounds has been putting out whatever pleases its little heart since 2009. With nearly 80 releases thus far — from combative instrumentation and blistering electronics, to confused pop and sound art, to the reflective drone of label head Matthew Sage — PS has been a dependable accomplice in the DIYsphere.
We talked with Sage about the importance of physical music formats, the unique offerings from his label, and rice pudding. Tons of rice pudding.
