Tabs Out is an all-cassette podcast that’s been documenting the prolific tape underground with obsession, humor, and expertise since 2012. Tiny Mix Tapes has teamed with Tabs Out for a show called Laser Focus, in which tape aficionados/fetishists Mike Haley, Dave Doyen, and Joe B hone in on a specific label or artist. Jason Crumer started No Rent over a decade ago as a way to sling limited solo material in exchange for much-needed cash on the fly. The quick-fix operation, with edition sizes that didn’t even reach double digits, has since evolved into one of the most thought-out, premium operations in the underground cassette world. Now located in Philadelphia and co-run with Rose Actor-Engel, the self described “small family type tape label” keeps up an insane schedule of “obscure but highly sought after experimental music” by the likes of Skin Graft, Noise Nomads, Howard Stelzer, Brett Naucke, Shredded Nerve, and… well, we could be here all day, people.
