For many, Valentine’s Day is a time to have a nice dinner at home or out at a nice restaurant with your significant other. For many others, however, V-Day is a grim reminder that you are alone. Sure, you can go out with some friends for an “anti love” drinking session, or you can read a book at home with your cat on your lap, and tweet about how this creature with a walnut-sized brain is all the companionship you need. Better yet, why not get some takeout and stare out the window, listening to some brooding indie rock, as you slowly drink a whole bottle of Syrah!
For the latter scenario, Portland’s Candace has just the thing for you: a new, three-track EP, Great Basin, dropping on February the 14th for all you lonely hearts. The two covers (Karen Dalton’s “Something On Your Mind” and Shoes’ “Do I Get So Shy”) and one original (“Great Basin”) don’t stray far from the trio’s M.O. of smoky psych-rock burners, most recently highlighted on their excellent LP, New Future. In fact, this release carries the tradition begun on last year’s Teenage Tragedy, also released on V-Day. The new set is streaming below, and available for a free download, so get on it!
