Whoa, better beware of these guys! Helvetia (it’s pronounced “hel-vee-shuh” and is apparently the female personification Switzerland … er, but you totally already knew that, right?) is the project of Built to Spill bassist Jason Albertini, combined with the awesome forces of former Duster bandmate Dove Amber and Zeke Howard (formerly of Love As Laughter), as well as fellow Built-to-Spillians Samantha Stidham, and Jim Roth. And as you can hear in the above clip for “A Dot Running for the Dust,” they’re on a mission to TRANCE the CRAP out of you! possibly so they can steal your wallet while you’re blissfully rocking out!
Believe it or not, just like MY band, Albertini and his crew have been sporadically releasing material (much of it recorded “raw, experimental, and psych-tinged”-style to a trusty old 4-track) since 2006. But, tragically UNLIKE my band, they’ve also toured with such luminaries as Built To Spill and Meat Puppets and are now gearing up to release their 2nd LP for the Joyful Noise label called Dromomania on October 2. In addition to having ALREADY watched this video a dozen times or more by now, you can pre-order the album RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND. And you can also catch Helvetia on tour at some point later in time than RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND. Which is great, because variety is nice, you know?
