Despite being born and raised in the Midwest, or perhaps because of it, I’m drawn to the island life. When a new album pops up in my inbox with the title Tropical Depression, I’m all ears, baby! And much like the Midwest, Dallas, Texas is not the first place that comes to mind when the subject of the tropics comes up; however, local synth wiz Jake Schrock conjures an oceanic futurism with his debut album, dropping this Friday, July 27, 2018. Tropical Depression is a seven song cycle of chilled out, blissful tones that ranks as one of Holodeck’s most relaxed affairs yet. And we’re not just offering up a little taste - we’ve got the whole dang thing streaming below. The previously released tracks “Cosmic Ocean” and the title track offer a glimpse into the mellowed out vibe of the tape, but you’ve got to hit play on “Surface Data” and follow Schrock all the way through to the closing tones of “Cerebral Shelter”. As the saying goes, it’s about the journey and not the destination, and Jake Schrock’s debut is a real nice journey, if you feel me. You can Pre-order Tropical Depression now, or when the album drops on Friday.
