Someone’s underneath; you can see them swimming, nearly treading water. “dawyn,” the first gift from kj’s forthcoming spells, is stark in the lightness of its liquid touch, playing distant keys into low vocal humming against a thick wash of reverb. The attached visual, slowed dances of light and an indistinct, submerged figure, is a fitting complement in the enrapturing simplicity of its palette.
spells is out October 13 on Lost Tribe Sound. Pre-order the record for an extended dip in the healing water of kj’s singular and sonorous approach to “ambient music,” a genre always understood in reference to cycles of redefinition, rejuvenation, and refreshment.
