The last we heard from Minneapolis psych-rockers Leisure Birds, they were tearin’ it up with their burner of an album, Tetrahedron. 2016 sees the group return with Zoom Lens, but it’s not your typical release. Zoom Lens is described as 1980s educational and travelog music, and it was created specifically for Black Label Music, a company that “specializes in high quality custom music for commercial, branded entertainment, TV and film projects.” In other words, Leisure Birds have crafted a bona fide library music album. Scope this bumper reel to get a feel for what they’re up to.
Of course, the main goal of hosting this album via TMT is to get you, the average Joe/Jill Sixpack, to jam it and enjoy it as a standalone instrumental record. But it’s also an opportunity for those who are in the movie-/commercial-/video-making business to sample the sounds and see if any tracks might pair well with your visuals. It’s a win-win situation: as a new addition to Black Label Music’s library, Leisure Birds are poised to stand out with their immersive synth-based tracks; as a new record from an exploratory psych band, Zoom Lens exists as a unique, worthy addition to their already impressive catalog.
Stream Zoom Lens below, for now and for all of time.
