♫♪  VVV - “Why El Paso Sky”

When I sung the praises of Dylan Cameron’s Infinite Floor last August, I knew Holodeck had set the bar pretty high, and I wondered if they could top Dylan C’s richly textured, deep house vibes. Lo and behold, here we are again and I, on cue it seems, am removing my foot from my mouth and writing to you immersed in yet another brilliant release from the Austin label. Whereas Dylan C was a longtime Holodeck jack of all trades, the latest release is from a new name to the label’s roster: Austin’s very own VVV (composer/producer Shawhin Izaddoost).

VVV has been releasing music under that name since 2010, and Why El Paso Sky, a mixtape “of various b-sides and rarities,” veers from ambient electronic interludes to dark, cavernous house over 16 tracks. It’s hard to pinpoint one or two highlights because the tape works so strongly front to back. Thankfully you can decide for yourself by scrolling down and peepin’ that full album stream we and the good folks over at Holodeck HQ are providing for you. Pre-orders are up, and Why El Paso Sky drops this Friday, March 10, on cassette and digital formats. Peep below and grip this beast while you can (limited to 200 copies, BBs).
