Is this the next stage of “power ambient”? No matter: riding down from their native Canada like a cold arctic mist, You’ll Never Get To Heaven have shrouded us in “White Light,” the most recent single from the group’s upcoming third LP. Owners of probably one of the most evocative band names current running, the duo — made up of a classical pianist/violinst and a “tone sculptor” — strike a fine balance between songwriting and formlessness, singer Alice Hansen’s voice cutting through waves of gorgeous haze, her melodies just present enough to anchor you in the soundscape. Instrumentalist Chuck Blazevic also apparently uses one of these machines, whose elegance mirrors the scrupulous, austere design felt inside the band’s music. A cleaning ice bath for the spirit.
YNGTH’s new album Images will be available March 24 from Yellow K, with a limited-edition cassette release from the band’s own Mystic Roses label. A European/North American tour is in the works for spring and summer — check below for confirmed dates so far.
