It’s not every day that we here at Tiny Mix Tapes get to write about an opera — let alone a *Pulitzer Prize winning* opera. So come forth, we’re here to tell you about Angel’s Bone, a new work (a Pulitzer Prize winning work!) from composer Du Yun and Canadian librettist Royce Vavrek.
Detailing the return of two angels to Earth following some nostalgia for the physical senses, Angel’s Bone is a wild, intense, beautiful, chilling, pretty much overwhelming piece of contemporary classical (the composer herself describes it as “a work that gave me nightmares” — you and me both, Du!). Follow last year’s release of the piece by National Sawdust, the gang have quite recently released a stunning video (directed by Brooklyn’s Spa Theory) which brings a bit of the piece out of the theater and into the world.
We really can’t say enough good things about this music or this video, so, watch it right down below (but not if you’re home alone with the lights off, seriously!!!) and why not go pick up a copy of the album too?
