Perhaps the only thing that could overshadow the end of Kobe Bryant’s career in the NBA is running bass enthusiast Flea, and he did just that with his spirited bass only-take on the National Anthem (no, not that “National Anthem”!). You can even see Kobe’s slight nods of approval as Flea tears it the fuck up at center court.
In many ways, this was an appropriate move, as Flea has become synonymous with Los Angeles, and I assume he’s a Lakers fan, too. On the other hand, this is a pretty **out there** choice for a nationally-televised live sports event. I can only imagine Skip Bayless cringing at the sight of that “free jazz beatnik” desecrating his sacred anthem while all America wants is another glamorized, indulgent farewell to an aged star well beyond his glory years.
But that fret work, man…
