This season is kind to those willing to receive the spirit, and nothing but a hassle and a chore to the skeptics. One need not believe to enjoy the fruits of the Christmas spirit; one need only be willing for some fun. Possession by the Christmas spirit is a wild ride; the spirit’s essence is composed of some of the more entertaining qualities of life: joy, merriment, lunacy, camaraderie, oblivion, abandon, gratitude, benevolence, the list goes on…
Carols make good heralds for the spirit. Even though I’d be perfectly content if, say, “Feliz Navidad” was the only carol in existence, I’ll always take more of ‘em, because carols lead to maximum lunacy. Lucky for me, great carols are abundant. Besides “Feliz Navidad,” there’s “Blue Christmas” “O Christmas Tree” “Mele Kalikimaka” “Santa Dog” “Jingle Bells” “Jingle Bell Rock” “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” “12 Days of Christmas” “If We Make It Through December” “Ho Ho Ho (Dirty Christmas)” “We Three Kings” “Deck the Halls” “Joy to the World” “Good King Wenceslas” “If Everyday Could be Like Christmas” “Pretty Paper”
& “Christmas My Baby and Me” adds another log to the fire. Here we go, merrily, in blazes.
