Young Thug dropped his JEFFERY mixtape earlier this year, and it’s banked him the most hype since his 1017 Thug breakthrough back in 2013, despite that tape being fairly worlds apart aesthetically. Feels like Thugger’s been on an eternal cusp for three years now, but JEFFERY really does feel like a precursor to something big, showing how his idiosyncratic, highly stylized delivery has that uncanny ability to expand even the most accessible rap templates into new shapes and sounds. No more is this better illustrated than on JEFFERY standout “Webbie,” which delivers a hook to end all hooks.
Watch the video for “Webbie” above, featuring guest rapper Duke and directed by Garfield Larmond.
