Every year since 1999, the drum and bass mainstream has become increasingly solidified and streamlined. Bingo Beats is one of a few labels left that courts Knowledge Magazine attention but still consistently releases original, passionate music like Moving Shadow used to. DJ Zinc is obviously their biggest and brightest act, but in light of Zinc’s sound regrettably moving in a more bog Grooverider-standard direction, Chase & Status are fast and deservedly earning my respect. Manchester-based Saul "Chase" Milton and Will "Status" Kennard have only been releasing for a couple years now, and their tracks are definitely among the highlights in this third installment of the Bingo Sessions. You can size them up pretty well from the get up Top Cat ragga opening anthem "Come Back," which harkens back to the glory days of jungle, as well as the more atmospheric "Believe." Of course, that’s not really digging too deep into their catalogue, as the entirety of the February-released four-cut Druids EP, along with the other two C&S cuts, make up most of their contribution to their own mix. They aren't the only talking point here. Fellow Bingo Beater, D Kay’s "Sunday Morning" is only one of four tracks allowed to play over four minutes, along with the Moody Blues-like "Reunited" and the Chase & Status-instrumented Jenna G track "In Love." The old-school, epic piano sample in "Sunday Morning," as well as its placement, makes it the centerpiece of the always top class, pro mixed mix. Bingo Beats remains the cream of mainstream DnB circa 2006.
