What were you up to at age 17? Personally, I was incessantly quoting movies, failing to be proficient at playing Coheed and Cambria songs on guitar, and in no way gearing up to release my debut EP. I can’t speak to the first two points; but in the case of the third, the exact opposite is true for 17-year-old LA-based artist Hana Vu.

Coming off of a Willow Smith feature, a slot opening for Soccer Mommy, and a tweet endorsement by Tegan & Sara, Vu is set to release her debut EP How Many Times Have You Driven By on June 29 via Luminelle Recordings.

At 17, my greatest artistic achievement was a horribly acted and hardly edited, Back to the Future-inspired short film for calculus class. Not only does Hana Vu have an EP coming out, but with new song “Shallow” hitting the internet airwaves, it feels safe to say that she has an EP coming out with at least one great song on it. (Feel free to up that count to three if you’ve happened to hear previously released tracks “Cool,” and “Crying on the Subway.”)

When I was 17, I couldn’t even say that I had drank some very good beer that I purchased with a fake ID. Vu recorded all of How Many Times Have You Driven By by herself and, despite her age and lack of previously released EPs, already sounds like an experienced artist who has found her voice.

Hear for yourself by heading down below to listen to “Shallow.” If you’re not too busy having an existential crisis over how you never accomplished any of the creative goals you set out to, you can pre-order How Many Times Have You Driven By before its June 29 release here.
