Amiina (string section for Sigur Rós) mix the gender dynamic and release sophomore album Puzzle

Iceland may be incapable of producing much these days in terms of exporting resources and whatnot, what with the government over there all busted up, but on occasion those gentile folk to the North offer us things of a quality rarely found elsewhere. Most of the conscious population out there is familiar with Sigur Rós, and if you’ve had the wonderful pleasure of seeing them play within the past few years you’ve most likely caught sight of an all-lady four-piece backing them up in the string department. Well, these ladies have also had their own thing going on for a while under the moniker of Amiina, and their sophomore album Puzzle has now been thrust outside of those frigid Icelandic boundaries.

Puzzle, which was officially released September 27, is the follow-up to 2007’s Kurr and is available in digital format or by mail-order, all through the band’s website. Since Amiina’s last album, they’ve gone and added a couple of boys to the band, so by the time this little story gets read by you, the band will most likely have played a couple shows in Italy, but they still have an upcoming show back in their motherland mid-month. Don’t worry, I’m sure the boys in the band are quite affable. They are from Iceland, after all.
