The Antlers announced this week that the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2009 album Hospice (TMT Review) will be titled Burst Apart and is set for release on May 10 via Frenchkiss Records. The album was recorded without the assistance of an outside producer or engineer in the band’s own Brooklyn studio over a period of five months. Singer/guitarist Peter Silberman has said that the album was strongly influenced by the band’s love of electronic music, which he describes as “music that keeps moving and is kind of entrancing and expansive at the same time.” Let’s hope that means it will sound more Radio Dept.-ish and less like a Scissor Sisters B-side.
In the meantime, The Antlers will be playing songs from Burst Apart live during a headlining set at the NPR SXSW showcase at The Parish in Austin on March 17, which will also be available to stream on NPR’s website. Before they head off to Austin, though, The Antlers — who we interviewed not too long ago — will also be annoying the fuck out of you if you follow them on Twitter, given their newfound love of retweeting any anagram of Burst Apart that their fans tweet at them. Seriously guys, we get it. We’re excited for the new album. Now STOP RETWEETING!
