Knowing that a reticent producer like Burial would be prone to occasionally dropping off the face of the planet, an evil version of Hyperdub might be accused of deliberately withholding tracks from certain formats of Burial’s releases so that it could re-release those albums (with the tracks included) after growing tired of catering to our plebeian whims for new music! But Hyperdub’s Steve Goodman is certainly not evil, so let’s stop short of conspiracy here and get you the details of the represses: Burial’s seminal albums Untrue and Burial are out on vinyl now, and these editions contain the “beatless atmospheric” tracks that were previously only featured on the CD versions. The beat-ful tracks are plenty atmospheric on their own, many listeners can attest, but it does feel like you’re getting the short end when you’re aware of (but not receiving) additional tracks on an album.
