Jimmy Edgar and Machinedrum’s Ultramajic label has grown in stature since its inagural release last year, and the house and techno imprint’s latest coup comes from a little-known Berlin producer named Chambray (a.k.a. André Rost). What is a Chambray, you might ask? Well, it’s a producer, sure. It’s also a fine cloth material made from colored warp and white yarns, and sometimes silk (not to be confused with the very similar Cambric fabric). It’s a sparsely populated commune in Northern France, home to the delightful Chateau de Chambray. Finally, it’s a chamois — pronounced “sham-wow” — cloth, perfect for polishing your family heirlooms or general household cleaning.
Rub, Chambray’s cheekily named debut EP for the young label, will be released on June 23. The title track — which can be found below, along with the EP’s full tracklist — sounds like slowly rubbing a chamois cloth down the side of a chateau made of silk chambray.
