While the press release announcing Cloud Control’s latest (and third) album Zone describes them as coming from Sydney, the truth is (and Wikipedia totally agrees with me) that Cloud Control comes from a place about an hour and a half outside of Sydney called the Blue Mountains.
This is important to know because the Blue Mountains are the slightly odd but totally groovy aunt to Sydney, a place spread out across some of the most pristine and difficult to traverse mountains in Australia, a series of tiny former mining town villages now filled with pot smoking, un-ironic flannel wearing beautiful freaks…which is the perfect context for Cloud Control’s latest single “Zones (This Is How It Feels).” While all the haircut bands and leg-shaving electronic “artistes” might be spiritually at home in the neon of Sydney, Cloud Control’s disregard for pop conventions and deeply rooted psychedelic leanings can only come from the Blue Mountains. So now you know.
Oh wait: I guess you should also know that Zones was recorded and self produced by the band in various locations around New South Wales over the space of 3 years and will be available September 1 via Votiv/Ivy League, after which they’ll be playing several shows around their home continent. Because it’s 2017, though, you can totally pre-order it ahead of time if you want, no matter which country you live in. And you can stream “Zones (This Is How It Feels)” right down below, too. So…NOW you REALLY know.
