I fucking hate festivals. The overpriced tickets, the sorority types in Native American outfits, the only two good bands playing at the same time on different stages… it’s the worst. Out of 1500 festivals in America every year, I could probably count the good ones on my left hand, and it’s missing a finger.
But thank the holy cosmic vending machine in space for a festival like Lousiville, KY’s Cropped Out. The festival just announced its sixth-annual event with a lineup that would get even Thomas Pynchon out of the house. I’m talking The Dead C, Bill Callahan, Kool Keith, Pissed Jeans, and Bitchin’ Bajas with Bonnie “Prince” Billy, just to name a handful. And the whole thing goes down on the weekend of September 23-24 at the working-class recreational lodge and community circus that is The American Turners Club, located on the banks of the Ohio River.
