Musical collaborations certainly aren’t uncommon, but when was the last time that two artists with very different approaches dared to reconcile for an innovative album, as though they were apples and oranges trying to figure out the best way to deliver their fruity nutrition together?
Fortunately for those who are increasingly health conscious, apple-orange juice totally exists. I’m sure it tastes delicious, but more importantly: it’s also basically the dietary equivalent of Crys Cole and Australian singer-songwriter Francis Plagne collaborating; because, lest you be unaware, Crys Cole is all about lyric-less experimentalism. It’s seemingly improbable that her efforts in EAI could be coherently combined with Plagne’s unabashed folk/pop tendencies.
AND YET, the new album Two Words, out July 27 on Black Truffle Records, promises to demonstrate just that. It’s a release that follows a series of live performances during which the two first tested their musical syngery, and if you listen to the two excerpts from the album below, you get the overall sense that neither artist sacrificed their musical inclinations for the sake of maintaining the other person’s typical sound. We’ve got prolonged static on the first clip and Plagne softly expounding on weather types in the second.
Buy and listen to the whole LP to find out if it really works! Here’s the pre-order link. I’m betting it sounds delicious.
