As someone’s grandma somewhere probably said, “People are like tea bags. You never know how strong they are until you put them in hot water.” If true, then Cursive’s Tim Kasher must be pretty pruney by now!
Taking strength from his own adversity and the idiocy of our “leaders” is the Kasher way, and his band of Nebraska-based emotives will release their latest healer, Get Fixed, digitally on October 11 (physically on January 17). Kasher and co. are clearly on a roll. Coming out just a year since Vitriola was issued, Get Fixed will come out on Cursive’s own 15 Passenger Records, and it is a state of the nation address that we want AND need.
Although much of Get Fixed was recorded during the same sessions that produced Vitriola, the two are quite different in sound and feel. “In certain ways, they (Vitriola and Get Fixed) may forever be considered companion pieces, but Get Fixed feels as though it’s been emancipated from the Vitriola session: the extra care and attention it received has helped it develop an identity very much its own,” says Kasher. “These songs of anger, frustration, helplessness and loss feel more poignant to us now than even a year ago.”
