Back in 2002, when Newark-based noise-rap outfit Dälek dropped their 2002 album From Filthy Tongues of Gods and Griots, Dr. Who wasn’t exactly the huge deal it is now. “That show with the scarf dude?” people would say. “Curly-haired guy? Lives in a trashcan? Yeah, I think I remember that show.” Different times.
But we don’t live in those times; we live in these times. Times in which pervasive, arguably irritating Dr. Who fever runs wild, hence calling for a Dälek rebirth. In addition to the new track that Dälek recently dropped called “Masked Laughter (Nothing’s Left)” and a European tour, the Ici d’ailleurs label has stepped up to reissue the aforementioned From Filthy Tongues of Gods and Griots, and, friend, they are not all talk. That reissue is out this very second as a 2xLP+CD/DL package with brand new artwork. Well, heck, what else is there to say about such a package? The CD comes with two unreleased tracks. There, that’s what’s left to say.
Now, please, join me in imagining a world in which someone who owns this shirt has decided to pick up this reissue. It’s a Dr. Who reference, so surely that’s something this hypothetical person would like, right? Now imagine them terrified for a good hour by this slab of brain-burning noise-rap. This is a good image.
