Given the recent frequency and ferocity of his characteristically fervent R&B missives for the Daptone label, it might seem like contemporary soul artist Charles Bradley arrived on the national scene the day before yesterday; but unfortunately, it’s never an inopportune time for cancer to throw its characteristic, asshole wrench into things.
Bradley was first diagnosed with stomach cancer a few months subsequent to the release of his wonderfully emotive album, Changes, and now, after beating the disease to a distance that allowed the scheduling of an extensive international tour, it’s been announced via Facebook post that the cancer has reappeared in his liver. The diagnosis has forced the cancellation of that entire aforementioned tour, as Bradly obviously undergoes treatment and recovery. A statement from the man himself, who’s experienced no shortage of hardship over the course of his life, reads:
I love all of you out there that made my dreams come true. When I come back, I’ll come back strong, with God’s love. With God’s will, I’ll be back soon.
Here’s the full post on Facebook, which also has the official list of cancelled tour dates. Watch the man at work down below if you haven’t yet acquainted yourself with his unique brand of magic:
