As we recently revealed courtesy of Billboard’s reveal courtesy of the freely viewable tweet that Aphex Twin just tweeted, the reanimated musician known by his local barista as Richard D. James has more or less confirmed plans to perform at the second-ever Day for Night Festival in Houston this December 17-18. There was still some very minimal room for interpretation in Aphex’s non-verbal message though, so about as soon as those of us in the music world starting adding mild qualifiers to our sentences about RDJ theoretically performing in the US for the first time in eight years, both Day for Night and Warp Records have removed all doubt about the now-hotly anticipated event. Aphex Twin will indeed be in Houston this December, and how disappointed would the rest of us Americans be if that was his only stateside stop?
I guess time will tell on the front of additional appearances, but joining Aphex at Day for Night are Arca, Lightning Bolt, Squarepusher (+ his band Shobaleader One), Björk (digital installation), Mykki Blanco, Matmos, Ariel Pink, and Oneohtrix Point Never as well, who certainly add some weight to a lineup that’s already tipping the scales of awesomeness and leaving a trail of food scraps along the front of its shirt. December festivals in North America seemingly aren’t that common for a variety of probably weather-related reasons, so let’s all give some claps to the founders of Day for Night (Free Press Houston and Work-Order) for taking advantage of the mild winter weather and booking some pretty solid/influential musicians.
