Okay, Decemberists junkies, we get it. You love words. You find them “bewitching.” Your “mental lexicon” is all that saves you from the “gnarled bracken” of the “coming day.” A typographical mistake sends you into “conniptions,” while a “ripe turn of phrase” sets your “bejeweled cockles aflame.” You are a descendent of both Strunk and White. You sleep with a dictionary under your pillow, a thesaurus at your feet, and six stitched-together volumes of World War I poetry as your blanket. God bless you.
Nevertheless, until Colin Meloy decides to release his songs as some sort of “nouveau roman”, you’re still forced to “stalk the profligate racks” of a modern record store whenever a Decemberists album is “consummated and sent forth.” We know it’s not easy to have this “albatross” around your neck, but according to sales figures for The King Is Dead (TMT Review), you’ve done so this time around with “heretofore unexpected alacrity.” Nicely done.
In lieu of “ducats,” Meloy and co. have decided to reward your “foolhardy spending” with a newly announced second leg of US tourdates, starting on April 16 in Colorado Springs and ending in Atlanta on May 2. They’ll even be “setting the lay of Nebraska alight” on April 17! We “beseech” you: go see ‘em.
