Just when you thought they couldn’t possibly do any more THINGS to single-handedly save American Democracy as we know it, the four superheroes in Deerhoof are digging even deeper down into their campaign for Truth, Justice and the (hopefully new-and-improved) American way.
Yup, after unveiling their new album of political activism-motivated pop Mountain Moves (which is still due out September 8 via Joyful Noise on a wide variety of formats, btw), premiering its lead-off single with Democracy Now, and rolling out its most recent single “Come Down Here And Say That (ft. Laetitia Sadier)” alongside a poignant interview in She Shreds; the band has just announced today that they’ve released Mountain Moves on their Bandcamp page — RIGHT NOW — as a “name your price” digital download benefiting The Emergent Fund.
You heard that right, Deerhoof and/or Social Justice fans: from now through September 7, 100% of your purchase will directly benefit The Emergent Fund — which was created to help those Americans who are currently “facing injustice based on racial, ethnic, religious and other forms of discrimination [by focusing on] organizations addressing immediate threats to a wide range of communities, including immigrants, women, Muslim and Arab-American communities, Black people, LGBTQ communities, and all people of color.” Per their website, “these communities need increased capacity so that they can respond, act nimbly, and develop new strategies in this new period. The Emergent Fund focuses on grassroots organizations in communities facing injustice by providing resources to defend against what’s coming.”
To top all this off, the band is ALREADY in the ol’ tour van, getting the word out and helping to keep the fires of musical justice burning as white-hotly as possible. They’re currently fighting their good fight overseas, but they’ll be returning back to the US for a headlining “Musical Truth Parade” (a new term I just coined) beginning September 15 in Portland, OR and including performances at LA’s Teragram Ballroom on September 22 and Brooklyn, NY’s Villain on October 7. Don’t worry; I’ll get to work work on formatting all the dates for you down below…YOU GUYS just Get clicking.
