At the time of writing, it’s rather telling that the second result of a Google search for “Dommengang” is a prior news article that we wrote, announcing the NYC band’s signage to the Chicago-based Thrill Jockey earlier this year. I don’t want to discount the possibility of internet wave-making via that article, but it seems the more likely explanation, given the band’s present absence from encyclopedic sites like Discogs is… brand spanking newness! Contrary to numerous other cases, Dommengang are releasing their debut album without a preceding EP or single that would otherwise create buzz and give our ears time to adjust. Yep, no lube. They’re just shoving it in there!
Everybody’s Boogie is the album they’re shoving in our respective media players on May 19, and for the purposes of offering mild acquaintance with the band itself, you should know that they’ve previously and reliably backed Emil Amos’s Holy Sons project, while frontman Sig Wilson has also played as a member of Castanets and Scout Niblett. Brian Markham and Adam Bulgasem round out the Dommengang trio, who are apparently really trying to justify the motel/muscle car imagery present on the album cover.
Falling firmly in the category of crazy psych blues boogie jangalang:
