Usually the opening band has some correlation with the headliner to help you figure out what they’re all about, but if you haven’t heard of White Rabbits, this little trick doesn’t work too well. They’re about to gain points ($$) supporting Interpol, but lest you try attributing that New York post-punk sound (or whatever it is they’re saying about Interpol these days) to them as a guess, consider that they also recently opened for such other indie giants as Spoon and The Walkmen. The comparison with Spoon is the better bet (though an almost tired argument by now) — in fact, Spoon’s Britt Daniel produced their new album on TBD Records, It’s Frightening (TMT Review), and Mike McCarthy (known for his work with Spoon and …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead) mixed the whole thing.
Overall, the fact of the matter is that White Rabbits seem on their way to being a highly marketable group. Who’re they going to open for next, The Dead Weather?
