Post-up under the hoop, readers: on May 4, Eleanor Friedberger will release her latest full-length Rebound, via Frenchkiss Records.
Despite what you may think based on its title, however, the album is not an ode to the likes of Chamberlain, Duncan, and Abdul-Jabbar.
Instead, Rebound is heavily inspired by Frieberger’s time spent in Greece. Specifically, her time spent at an Athens club that’s only open on Saturdays after 3 AM, and where Friedberger once busted chicken dance-esque moves to music by an unidentifiable artist that maybe sounded like Joy Division or The Cure (no, seriously). And the name of that club was — you guessed it! — Rebound.
As a result of her experiences at Rebound, the club in Athens where you do the chicken dance, Rebound the album by Eleanor Friedberger trades in the full band and live instrumentation of 2016’s New View for programmed drums, muted guitars, and a Juno synthesizer.
Hear what that sounds like by listening to “In Between Stars,” a song that seems like the kind of song you might feel compelled to flap your arms to in the isolation of a smoky Greek club, down below. Also check out the artwork for Rebound, as well as Friedberger’s upcoming slate of tour dates. Rebound is out May 4 via Frenchkiss Records and can be pre-ordered here.
