Happy birthday Papa: Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper’s “Director’s Cut” project to release new album of originals and remixes

Happy birthday Papa: Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper's "Director's Cut" project to release new album of originals and remixes
Papa in his natural habitat. Boy, we miss him.

Real talk: Frankie Knuckles would have been 64 today (February 18), and you know he would have been partying it up in celebration.

Five years after his passing, his longtime friend and collaborator Eric Kupper has announced a commemorative new album from their collaborative Director’s Cut project — a project for which Frankie created some of his final works. Frankie and Kupper began Director’s Cut in 2011, “with the sole aim to release new music, whilst re-producing classic cuts to fit in with the modern dance floor.”

The vinyl release, via SoSure Music, will also include an exclusive edit by Jimmy Edgar on the B-side. The vinyl will hit stores on February 1. It’s being released in collaboration with The Frankie Knuckles Foundation, to which 50% of the proceeds will go.

Happy birthday, Papa Knuckles, I hope they’re finding you plenty of champagne, wherever you are.
