Hey readers. Just got texts from Efrim Manuel Menuck, Michael Moya, Mauro Pezzente, Sophie Trudeau, Karl Lemieux, Timothy Herzog, Aidan Girt, David Bryant, and Thierry Amar telling me I can come by their studio this morning and pick up the bass, contrebasse, electric guitars, portasound, organs, drums, electric bass, violins, and 16mm film projections I lent them. Turns out they weren’t just dicking around with all my equipment but recording the follow-up to their ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! album from 2012. Nice! Though I would have appreciated a credit in the liners.
It’s cool though. My nine best buds Godspeed You! Black Emperor have a new album to release on March 31 through Constellation, called Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress, which is a studio-distilled version of a big piece called “Behemoth” they’d been playing live over the last few years. Unlike previous albums, this one fits onto a single LP with no 7-inch addendum or nothin’. One can expect “huge unison riffage, savage noise/drone, oscillating overtones, guitar vs. string counterpoint, inexorable crescendos and scorched-earth transitions,” plus a song called “Lambs’ Breath” that makes me try to think of a joke involving lambsbread, like maybe saying something about “god’s green you dank hemperor, but ultimately a joke doesn’t arrive.
