It’s hard to believe its been SEVEN LONG YEARS since Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s Gorillaz set their hairy, animated feet on the North American continent (…possibly because seven years is only like three weeks in “gorilla yearz”); but now that the planet is ablaze with the hot, hot newz that the animated band’s new album Humanz is out on April 28, we don’t have to waste or precious time and energy “believing” that shit anymore anyway, cuz Albarn, Hewlett, and their entire A/V club have just announced a whole slew of summer dates across the pond for the first time since 2010’s “Escape to Plastic Beach Tour” (a tour so epic and elaborate that it required its own Wikipedia page).
Tickets for this new and presumably-just-as-life-altering campaign, which gets underway July 8 in Chicago and runs through the fall, will be available for general on-sale THIS FRIDAY (April 21) at the band’s high-tech website, www.angelfire.com/music/triphop/gorillaz. And, in addition to Albarn and Hewlett’s enigmatic avatars and a “touring ensemble of flesh and blood musicians” — featuring Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, Russel Hobbs and 2D — fans can also expect the usual unexpected live-show dazzlery from the new record’s “stellar lineup” of featured artists — Jehnny Beth (Savages), Danny Brown, Benjamin Clementine, De La Soul, D.R.A.M., Peven Everett, Anthony Hamilton, Grace Jones, Zebra Katz, Kelela, Mavis Staples, Vince Staples, Popcaan, Pusha T, Jamie Principle and Kali Uchis, ET THE FUCK CETERA.
