Grime is back! Eat it dubstep, hyphy, bounce, and all those other trends that popped up in the past few years. Finally, we’ll be taken back to the heyday of 2003-2006 with our ol’ buds Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Wiley….
Bwuh? What’s that? Grimes is back? Not grime? No Dizzee Rascal? Oh. Okay.
As it turns out, Montreal-based artist Grimes (a.k.a. Claire Boucher) has a new record called Visions coming out January 31 through Arbutus Records. And I don’t know if you know this about Grimes, but she is a woman that puts out a lot of records. Visions will be her fourth release in less than two years. Earlier this year, she put out the Darkbloom split EP with d’Eon, the likes of which followed up Geidi Primes and Halfaxa, her two 2010 full-lengths.
According to the record’s press release, Boucher is taking influence from some crazy disparate sources. Aphex Twin! TLC! And, of course, Enya! If the songs on Visions don’t basically sound like a mash-up of “Come to Daddy” and “No Scrubs” and “Orinoco Flow,” I will be distinctly disappointed and I will probably be the only one.
