Haco, Takako Minekawa, Dustin Wong, Tarnovski collaborate on new ambient piece Kannazuki for Warm Winters Ltd.

What if — and I know this is a crazy idea, but hear me out — we told you that the mighty foursome calling itself “Haco, Takako Minekawa, Dustin Wong, Tarnovski” were releasing a live, improvised recording of the four of them performing in Tokyo in 2017?

And what if — again, hear me out — we told you that it’s due out in just a few short days? June 28 via Warm Winters Ltd, to be exact?

And what if — last time here, just stick with me — it was called Kannazuki: the traditional name for the tenth month of the year in the Japanese lunar calendar? Completely hypothetical of course. It could never actually happen.

Or at least…that’s what we thought, until we found out exactly all of that IS happening.

Kannazuki is made up of a singular 18-minute ambient piece guided by instinct and deep listening on the part of each member of the quartet. Dustin Wong, who mixed the record, recalls that “each track had a life of its own, each could have been a piece in itself. But when the sounds converged, they created a completely new world, a new context.” The result is a truly exciting yet unrushed ambient piece, “an imaginative world” guided by instinct and deep listening on the part of each member of the ensemble.
