Q: What do you call an album that marks a huuuge sonic shift?
A: If you’re one of the five parasitic fun-runners in the British band Hookworms, you call it Microshift (which, if we’re splitting semantic hairs, is actually the opposite of what the album represents in the band’s career…but you don’t get any extra credit for that answer, smartass).
Overhauling their raw and live-based musical edges with sleek new electronic loops and drum machines, Hookworms’ third album and will be released on Domino February 2, 2018 as a “deluxe limited edition LP (including orange color vinyl, exclusive alternate artwork sleeve, and printed PVC outer sleeve plus bonus hand numbered screenprint limited to 500), deluxe LP, standard LP, CD, and download” (worm your way over here for the vinyl and CD iterations, and here for the special-edition and digital versions).
And sure, you could spend the time between now and February 2 trying to imagine just what sort of transformative sonic incubations Hookworms have gone through on Microshift, or…you could let the infectious lead single “Negative Space” wiggle its way through your ears and into your brain right now by listening below.
Or, less gross: simply leave your house and see Hookworms on a stage near you (provided that you are in the vicinity of the United Kingdom).
