Bowie…Prince…Aretha…Jóhann Jóhannsson…various obscure SoundCloud rappers…it feels like it’s been particularly hard losing so many music industry luminaries over the last several years. And with the news cycle’s fierce pace, it’s sometimes difficult to give each tragedy its due.
But Ilpo Väisänen is aiming to do just that for his friend and Pan Sonic collaborator, Miko Vainio, who passed away last year at just 53 years old. Ilpo is paying tribute to his band and Miko’s legacy under the I-LP-ON moniker. The resulting 14-track album, ÄÄNET (“VOTE”), arrives November 9 on Editions Mego. Recorded across Europe, it’s sure to be a fitting farewell to one of experimental electronic music’s most steadfast voices.
