As we close in on the 10-year anniversary of the passing of J Dilla, it’s hard to imagine that any other artist (except maybe Prince) would have archives of such quality and quantity that we can pretty much expect a new unearthing of the archives every 6-12 months and still not wonder whether they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel. Case in point: like a well-quantized Dilla beat ripped straight from the SD card of his 404, it’s time for a new Dilla release, and this time it’s a whopping three-disc set called Dillatronic, set for release October 30 via Vintage Vibez Music.
The presser promises that Dillatronic is a curated selection of some of the producer’s unreleased work, which has a more electronic vibe and a “shockingly contemporary feel.” As demonstrated by “Dillatronic #7,” one of 40 cuts taken from the album:
