God am I tired of bands releasing comprehensive box sets spanning their entire discography. So, you’re telling me that instead of reliably purchasing the individual records at the time of their release, I could’ve just cryogenically frozen myself until the ultimate time of massive and super special set distribution? The anxious wait in between albums comes at the stressful cost of money spent on mentally-soothing string cheese, so in turn, thank god that Jaga Jazzist are keeping things relatively minimal. Marking 20 years of activity, they’ll be releasing a repackaged version of their album A Livingroom Hush on December 16 via Ninja Tune.
And in case you weren’t aware, A Livingroom Hush was anything but, as it earned the Norwegian sometimes-improvisers an award for “best jazz album of 2002” by the BBC and though I hate to sound like a veejay for VH1 (which I think still exists?), is also widely considered to be their breakthrough album. This repackaged version contains the full album on vinyl, alongside four unreleased Livingroom demos as digital bonus tracks, and two 12-inches featuring remixes from Machinedrum, Clark, Teebs, and more. Clark in particular knows not to challenge Jaga’s complexities:
Shout-out to the tremendously slept-on Live With Britten Sinfonia as well.
