More dispatches from Planet Jazz.
This time from the Los Angeles of Europe (a.k.a. London) where the Kamaal Williams — half of the recently disbanded Yussef Kamaal duo — has locked-down a debut album called The Return, which will fill your ear holes come 25 May via Black Focus records.
If over three earth weeks feel like too long of a wait to own your own copy of the smooth, key-driven jazz fusion of the new group, you can loop the lead single “High Roller”ad infinitum and send yourself into a deep funk/soul hole while you wait out the necessary earth rotations.
Kamaal Williams — which is actually a trio featuring Williams on keys (confusing, huh?) with Pete Martin on bass and McKnasty (what were his parents thinking!) on drums — have been lighting-up jazz dens around Europe lately with their 70s-jazz-fusion-meets-90s acid-beat sounds; and the trio will be embarking on several more shows in support of The Return in the coming months. Check out the current live dates below (after you dig yourself back out of that funk/soul hole).
Tour dates, THE RETURN:
05.17.18 - Brighton, UK - The Great Escape
05.26.18 - Oostzaan, Netherlands - Het Twiske
07.15.18 - London, UK - Citadel Festival, Gunnersbury Park
10.28.18 - Frankfurt, Germany - Mousonturm Saal
