Some bands like to project an image of relentless menace. Others, like the (mostly) instrumental quartet, Kinski, authenticate the pretenders claims with every scorched-earth saga they release. Seattle’s best will be turning 20 years old soon, and to celebrate the momentous anniversary, they’ll be doing what they’ve done regularly for two decades: releasing a record that ratchets up the riff tension to heights few can ever dream to reach.
Accustomed to Your Face is out October 12 on indie dream Kill Rock Stars (pre-order it on CD, DL, and LP here). Two juggernaut-powered rock fests from the album (listenable down below) have been set free and sum up the wide-eyed approach of Kinski nicely. “Kinski 101” is a propulsive instrumental jam, and “Guest Girl Vocalist” features — you guessed it — a girl vocalist (although she’s not actuallya guest). The latter is a first for the band, with bassist Lucy Atkinson lending her vox to the primitive punk blast.
One of the US underground’s not-so-best kept secrets has scheduled select dates over the next couple of months, most with the savage Feral Ohms. 20 years is a long time but Kinski was there first and still does it best. That’s Kinski 101. And so is this:
