Summer is coming. But other than a few uncharacteristically warm spells of weather in ordinarily-nut-numbing climes and a few vague, fun-in-the-sun intimations courtesy of the Baywatch crew, true, definitive proof of summer’s imminent arrival can only come with word that a new Laetitia Sadier album is on its way. Actually, that’s the kind of news that will turn the dourest of dispositions sunny, regardless of the season!
Find Me Finding You is available March 24 from Drag City and is the first long-player by Sadier since 2014’s superb Something Shines. As she has consistently moved through far-out spheres for sound throughout her post-Stereolab career by dexterously fusing pop drones, bossa boogies, and slinky Euro-loungers, I think the only thing that’s safe to expect from Sadier this time around is a continuation of that same adventurous spirit on this new record. So, in other words: no different, and completely different from her past efforts, thank goodness.
This time out, Sadier has tacked on “Source Ensemble” to her name, grouping together her collaborators under one concordant canopy. Lending their considerable talents are past supporters Emmanuel Mario, Xavi Munoz, and David Thayer (keyboards and flutes); Phil M FU (synths and electronics); and Mason le Long (guitar). There is also a duet with Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor on the track “Love Captive.” Meanwhile, Sadier and co. can be heard showing off their lead-off-hitting skills on album opener, “Undying Love for Humanity,” here or through the embed below.
There are tour dates, too, but only one in the US so far (at the Knoxville-hosted Big Ears Festival on the record’s release date). But you know there will be more North American shows announced soon enough. After all, like I said: summer is coming.
