Pop ambient is my favorite kind of ambient; it’s also the aptly-chosen name of a series of Kompakt compilations to which Leandro Fresco has contributed since 2003. Now, the Argentinian producer has teamed up with Ghostly’s Rafael Anton Irisarri for La Equidistancia: a record that will likely continue in both musicians’ shared tradition of exhibiting grainy, instrumental music that also contains a distinct “melodic sensibility.”
La Equidistancia will officially see the light of day April 10 on the Los Angeles-based A Strangely Isolated Place label. Right now, however, you can stream the album’s opening track (and front-running contender for Longest Song Name of 2017) “Cuando El Misterio Es Demasiado Impresionante, Es Imposible Desobedecer.” It’s a gorgeous slab of a thick ambient environment with a pulsating heart to it.
Speaking of gorgeous: La Equidistancia will come out on a “snow” marbled vinyl, and the packaging will include a 12x12 poster of the front cover photo by Nicolas Amoroso & Chommpi Poggi. You can pre-order the whole thing here.
