Philadelphia producer Lushlife, in an early bid for the best title of 2017 (and, you know, to support a great cause), has released a mixtape called My Idols Are Dead + My Enemies Are In Power, or just Idols + Enemies for short (though, clearly, the long title is far superior).
A full-length “interdisciplinary” affair, My Idols Are Dead + My Enemies Are In Power features politically minded artists, including Killer Mike, billy woods, and Moor Mother, as well as activists and academics like Jedediah Purdy and Sut Jhally.
It can be downloaded now via IdolsAndEnemies.com for a contribution of your choice, with all proceeds going to support the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Cassettes and other merchandise are also available via the website.
Along with the mixtape, Lushlife released the following statement: “November’s dystopian presidential election sent all of us looking for answers. My Idols Are Dead + My Enemies Are In Power brings together artists, activists, and academics to explore how we got here, and what to do next. We stand with poor folks, Muslims, people of color, the LGBTQ community, and all Americans against any attack on our civil rights.”
