Surely we can all agree that space is both fascinating and absolutely terrifying. (If you can’t agree with this, then you’re just wrong. Think about it some more and accept the horror.) Therefore, it’s a suitable topic for Swedish musician Mats Erlandsson’s lovely, claustrophobic debut LP for Posh Isolation, Valentina Tereshkova, named after the the first woman to fly in space. The Soviet cosmonaut spent 2 days and 22 hours of what we can only imagine to be a serious bout of existential terror (AND WONDER) piloting the spacecraft Vostok 6 around among the stars.
Erlandsson’s album features six tracks, including “Ivory Towers,” which you can listen to below. An electronic composer and musician based out of Stockholm, Erlandsson has a master’s degree in composition from that city’s Royal College of Music and serves as a studio assistant at Elektronmusikstudion (EMS).
