Hey, friend. YOU look like you could use a few minutes to yourself! I know: the world’s a crazy, violent, hateful, hard-to-grasp, seemingly-inhospitable place right about now, right? Right. I get it. You need some space. You need some clarity. You need a few sun salutations…or, if that’s not your thing, a nice cup of coffee and maybe a smoke. Or, failing ALL THOSE THINGS, you need Matthewdavid’s Mindflight.
So just relax; L.A.-based purveyor of “modern new age” Matthew McQueen (a.k.a. Matthewdavid) has totally got you! He’s just announced Ophiuchus, his newest album of meditative soundscapes and astrologically-infused synthesizer fantasies. It was named after that ever-elusive 13th sign of the Zodiac and consists of two, side-long slices of eminently follow-able bliss — the radiant and gently-ripping, 24-minute title track, which was composed in anticipation of his daughter’s birth), and “Geddes,” a nod to his fellow modular fetishist M. Geddes Gengras.
And while the album itself doesn’t “officially” come out until September 22 (as a pre-orderable digital and cassette release, courtesy of NNA Tapes), you can totally stream a 12-minute “excerpt” of “Ophiuchus” via the brand new music video (created with visual artist Adam Ferriss) down below right now. Gaze into its undulating pastel majesty and ascend to a higher plane of consciousness…or just put it on as background music while you eat Superman ice cream the tub. Whatever you need to do to feel like yourself again. It’s seriously all good.
