These are tough times to live in, indeed, friends. Just to get through the day, you need something billowing and angry and belligerent with enough sonic turbulence to focus your aggression, but you also need to be reminded of your four favorite musical combinations — White Suns, Pop. 1280, Twin Stumps, and Squad Car — as often as possible (so that you don’t forget them, of course!). Well, don’t give up on tomorrow yet, because members from every last one of those bands (one from each, as far as I can tell) have unceremoniously taken off one hat and very-ceremoniously put on another collective hat, and that hat is called Conduit. Not only that, but this superhat is giving us all the darkest new entry in the Waterworld saga we deserve with their debut album, Drowning World. It’s out September 3 through Kitschy Spirit. Hats fantastic!
There’s something about gritty noise rock spiked with harsh industrial textures and structured around robust dynamics that makes 2018 go down a little bit smoother, you know? Luckily, such qualities are brilliantly showcased in pre-release track “To the Tower,” which you can assault your senses with below. Note the booming drums, the relentless, gurgling feedback, and Alessandro Keegan’s alternatingly abrasive and trance-inducing vocals. It’s all a part of the explosive energy that can hardly be contained by the song (much like how I can hardly contain my excitement for this album!).
So if you’re like me and listen only to the heaviest of heavy things because it makes you feel petite and delicate by comparison, check out the full tracklisting below, and pre-order the record on vinyl and/or digital here. Now we have the strength to fight another day!
