Mexican Summer to release Travis Bretzer’s Making Love EP, gives you the best rash ever

I’m at a loss for how to really process Travis Bretzer’s music. The visual content of it seems, possibly intentionally, opposed to the musical content of it. Have a butchers at the cover of his album Making Love, forthcoming on Mexican Summer. It looks dialed in on a feeling of detached coolness that one would expect from an album containing appropriately hip electro-pop. Instead we are given this:

It’s wonky with guitar detune, honest to the point of being strangely earnest, and all the while coalescing goofy and coy into an itch that forms in hard to reach places. Contrasting this sound with the fact that the final track on the EP is called “Death Rock” only aggravates the affected areas. Possibly a desirable trait for music to have, though; it probably won’t stray too far from my brain before it comes out on July 23. Perhaps if I rub the record on my skin the itching will stop.

Making Love tracklisting:

01. Billy and I
02. He’s a Gun
03. Hurts so Bad
04. Trying to Learn
05. Death Rock
